I'll get back to you on thatTips and advice for the ever procastinating teenager?
Sadly there is only one way. Remove the distractions. Don't study at home, where the net is.

Find a nice spot in the library.
just do it, quit being lazy. If you dont want to do it, then just keep being lazy. You can do whatever you want to do, you just have to quit making excuses.

What would you do?need teenager advice?

My husband and I went out of town for the weekend about a month ago and my ex (kids dad) was supposed to come and stay with the kids. I found out after I got home that he didn't come and stay. He told the kids they were old enough to be alone and then he told them to lie and tell me he came and stayed. Today my son(16) told me my daughter(17) came home drunk with her boyfriend (19)and his friend(19). I am totally shocked. I thought she was a good girl she never ever gives me trouble about curfew etc. She always tells me where is and who she is with and I have never had reason to doubt her(I check up occasionally also) My question is what do I do now. Should I ban her from seeing her boyfriend(they have dated 1 1/2 years) Should I ground her? I am at a loss because this is a shock to me. I never expected this from her of all people. I know that her boyfriend drinks even though he is not old enough but I always though it was when she wasn't there. Her curfew on the weekend is midnight and when she comes home she always comes in and kisses me goodnight so I know she isn't drinking or I would smell it. ADVICE please!!!What would you do?need teenager advice?
Personally, I would ground her the next month. When she gets out of school, she comes straight home. No phone, no tv. She has to do dishes every night after dinner and I'd give her another task, whether it's kitty litter, walking dog, vacuuming, etc.

She needs to know that behaviour will not be accepted. I would also re-just her curfew after the month passes. If she use to be home at 11, I would make it 9 from now on.

What would you do?need teenager advice?
She should definetly be called out on it and have some kind of consequense but she is 17 there is no way you will be able to keep her from him and you do not want her to sneak around. Maybe take driving privlages away for awhile or something like that. She is so close to being out on her own that you do not want to push her away but you deserve respect and she needs to respect your home.
teens do stupid stuff to try out things, this was probably her first time bc she realized that it was the perfect opportunity to try it... i wouldn' t ban her from seeing her bf, but you should definitely ground her and explain to her that her decision was wrong... don't be too harsh because we all make mistakes and we are all curious at times... i hope things work out okay :O)
Everyone makes mistakes.

I dont think you should totally lose trust for her.

Just ground her %26amp; take her cell phone away. tell her your disapointed in her which will probably effect her. dont rat out that her brother told just say you found out. Dont make her break up with him just dont let her see him out side of school until her groundings over.

Try to forgive
you need to talk to her about it but try not to be too harsh...tell her if it happens again she wont be able to see her boyfriend anymore...make sure she understands the risks of drinking and be clear about what will happen if you find out she drinks again.
i agree with that guy. besides im 13 and i stay home alone 16 and 17 is too old to have someone watch over TEENAGERS!! i would hate to have a mom that does that. just ground her bad. teach her a lesson and dont get a ';baby sitter'; next time.
Whether you like it or not, your daughter is going to drink. Grounding her is just going to push her away. As much as you dislike it, she is going to do what she wants. Just make sure she knows how much is too much.
i dont know why, but it seems like your son's lying.

if hes not, then you just need to have a SERIOUS talk to your daughter.

people help me friend problem: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
Get to her now b4 she goes away to college. She's wrong for that but idk what to tell you because im only 18 but i hope it works out for you all
do not ban her from her bf. she will rebel and do it anyways

happened to all 3 of my neighbors daughters

just talk to her about what you know
Smack your son upside the head for being a tattle-tale.
first of all they are old enough not to have a baby sitter i was staying at home alone at 16.

drinking at that age isnt that big of a deal im sure she wouldnt be doing it every night..banning her from seeing her boyfriend will make her hate you and rebel against you.and you will more then likely loos her..im 18 and if my mum did that to me i dont no what i would do.... just sit her down and tell her that you dont have a problem with her having a few drinks but to keep it as a weekend thing and only a few im sure if you be the big person about this she will feel more grown up and have more freedom.
I am sorry to say but as a 14 year old I realize that you are upset and surprised but as normal teenager some of my friends drink and do some other stuff and it is normal. instead of going straight to punishing her, you sound like your pretty close to your daughter, just talk to her and explain why you dont want her to do that and dontt ban her from her boyfriend because all that will do is cause her to hate you. try to find a different way to punish her. it is a way diffrent world out there then i think it used to be haha.
I'm putting myself in her situation a young teenage girl w no adult to answer to for the weekend! I would have partied too that doesn't make her a bad kid at all the hardest part is just admitting that our babies are growing up and we have to start letting go. I do think thought that I would talk to her and let her know that I know what she did and that I'm not proud of her, and that if she wants to continue to be trusted she needs to be trustworthy when she's being watched and when she isn't
well you cant take it to the extreme the one time she messes up , she's only human it was probably just a careless mistake . dont lock her down and ground her because she will end showing even worse behavior , so just take it easy and probably change her curfew to 10 instead of 12 just to show her you are displeased and that is not accceptable . you should probably talk to her boyfriend about geeting your daughter invovled in what he does . good luck .
ban her from seeing her boyfriend. She shouldn't be dating or hanging around with guys like that. Ground her and take away her things (cell phone, TV, comp, gameboy, etc)
tell the 16 year old to stop being such a ******* goodie goodie

Anyone out there ever been foster parents to a teenager? Any advice that could be helpful?

Was a foster parent for several years, and pretty successful. Here's some of what I learned. The child most likely has unresolved conflicts with people in the past. If the major offender was female it is best if the opposite sex person does the most direction giving. Most important is that the child would very likely have the same problems they have with you with anyone else in your position, so do not take anything personally. Some just need caring for. Steer away from being called Mom or Dad because this group likely has bad stuff associated with them thus those names, and if they do not then the child might feel you are horning into someone elses place. The STEP program which can be found in most book stores was the most helpful instruction manual I found, it is practical an easy read and the methods really work. If they have a counselor assigned try to get to know that person without asking about the sessions (confidential). Getting along with that person will help. The child may say they said this or that if they are arguing with you but they are probably telling you only half the story. Also some people go into counseling because they have problems so it is a good idea to watch and see what those might be and how they fit in. Being a good foster parent is as hard as it is rewarding, and the rewards flow out to us all when a job is well done--treasures in heavenAnyone out there ever been foster parents to a teenager? Any advice that could be helpful?
I havent been a parent but i was a foster kid...just be there for them cause we need it. don't be over loving tho cause we want our space ..also don't get extra mad if they don't call you mom or dad they will work up to it i'm sureAnyone out there ever been foster parents to a teenager? Any advice that could be helpful?
I wasn't a parent, I was a sibling...as in, my parents took in a foster kid. It was great, once he settled down a little. He was 15 and had been through a lot of crummy stuff in his life. It was weird at first, not knowing how to treat him as a brother or friend (he was older than me, and the same age as my older brother), but he ended up being just like an older brother. I think the biggest thing was acceptance, because he was convince the whole world hated him and would never love him. Even to today we stay in contact, and consider him a sibling.
Yes, i am a foster parent to a teenage boy, I really do not know what I could tell you that would be helpful, except to be patient, never yell, and try to make the time to listen to what they have to say.Remember, you put good in them, good will come out, even if you don't see it right then. Most important of all is, only you control your emotions, there is no such thing as saying he made me mad, or he made me sad, you chose to get mad or sad, only you have that kind of power over your emotions.
Yes. A teen age girl. The lady next door did as well. She had several in the amount of time she lived next to us. Everything aweful thing that woman did made me a better foster mom.

Here is a list of things she did that I made a mental note NOT to do as I saw it devastating these girls.

1. She would have a family dinner night and not include her foster child. This was a night where just she and her husband and daughter would go somewhere really nice and have a dinner and maybe go out for a movie later. The foster daughters were never invited and usually either thrown a cheap microwave pizza or if I knew about it they dined with our family.

(From this I learned that if you don't have it in you to have a family night with the Foster kid, don't have foster kids. If you need a night with your child one on one, you need to plan one with your foster child too. What they need most is to feel part of a family unit and to be loved and accepted.)

2. She was by her own admission in it for the money. She would buy her daughter little gifts all the time and nothing for the foster daughter. Even at Christmas, her foster daughter would get a dollar store stocking and her own daughter would get unnecessarily showered with gifts. I know this is not what Christmas is all about, but I am only illustrating the pain the foster daughter felt.

Her foster daughter got nothing for Easter and the daughter got a huge colored ceran wrap professional basket full of goodies.

Her foster daughter got the lead in a play at school and needed pink tights, but foster mom wouldn't get them for her because it wasn't in the budget. (these people had plenty of money). Now, in case you think I am taking the word of one foster kid, I am not. Almost all of them would end up at my house complaining about these same types of things over dinner with us or just visiting in the garden. Not to mention the fact that I was stocking shopping for our kids together one Christmas and I said something like ';Oh, you must be done with (Jane's) stocking, isn't all this stuff for (Suzie)? and she said she did Janes at the dollar store earlier. The stuff in the basket was enough to be any of my kids ONLY presants.

It isn't about the actual material goods for the kids...it is totally about being made to feel like a dirty dish rag/being thrown a bone.

(If you are thinking for one moment that the amount of money the government will give you will be enough to help raise and usually heal emotionally, a teen ager-- get out now. Much if not all of the money you make will be needed for the upbringing of that kid.)

3. There were different punishments for her own daughter than for the foster daughter.

(Now, if you are getting into this you already understand that discipline is a big deal. As far as what you can and can't do--But you and your husband or who ever else is in the family have to be on the same page. Lying has one type of punishment for ALL in the house hold. Not if Jane does it she can be grounded for a day that is convenient for her--such as after the weekend. But Suzie has to clean the whole house and is grounded for a week)

I guess what it really boiled down to for me is realizing that because they were not my birth kids and that I haven't known them for very long, does not mean they don't desperately want a stable environment. That and love and acceptance. I think if your whole household--kids included, decide before hand that you are out to make a positive difference in these kids lives, it will be a good experience for all of you.

Really, best said, take the foster off the front of family.

Sorry so long...spell check wouldn't even touch it (LOL)

  • I need teenager advice, please help. Its a poll.?

So I am a little bit torn into a million pieces: The reason I broke up with my boyfriend, lets call him Ken, was because I really like this other guy, Frank, that I have known since kindergarten, problem is he has a girlfriend and yet he is always being sweet on me, and I know he likes me. So, literally, the day after I break up with Ken, one of my old boyfriends, Todd, that I haven't talked to or seen since June, calls me and talks about how he really wants to get back together with me and is being all nice about it and calling me all of this cute stuff, problem is, I don't get the same butterflies with Todd as I do with Frank. What do I do? There is this festival coming up this weekend and they both, Frank and Todd, want to come to hang out with me. Tell me what to do? Have you ever been in this position?I need teenager advice, please help. Its a poll.?
well look as i see it dnt worry about todd? he is ur ex for a reason and if u left ur ex for the reason of being with frank well do it try something with frank... so like i said dnt think of todd he lost his chance with u so just take time with frank.. well good luck....I need teenager advice, please help. Its a poll.?
its your life not a bunch of random people on the internets follow your heart.
If frank want leave his girl for you, but flirts with you, I think he wants to bake his cake and eat it too. No fun intended. Just go with Todd.
trust ur gut.. ur obviously not reali into this ';todd'; guy or else u wouldnt b asking the question? go 4 the guy u want
Only u ask for thoso, question is Yahoo Answers.. I will tell u something! Some times Yahoo Answer is better than comedy central!

~ Idk.. You should choose. It is not us, ho is going out with them...

What are the three pieces of advice you would give to your teenager ???

I would stress the importance of school, and activities such as sports clubs and prom. Thoose are things i regret not having done most in high school.

I would tell them that your are lucky if you come out of this life with one good friend, and blessed if you have two. Durring teenage yrs. friendships seem to be the most important thing in life, they cause the most drama, and give rise to many tears. The people that they know today, will most likely be forgotten tomorrow. Or well not tomorrow but come a few years.

And most importantly always be yourself, if you try to fit in and get caught up in the politics of school you will eventually lose yourself. But if you find your path early in life the future you want is easier to obtain.

I would teach my child to work for all that they have for no one truly appreciates that which is given to them.

I would teach my child that hate breeds hate, and kindness breeds kindness. To love and lose is better to have never loved at all.

JUST REMEMBER: no matter what you teach your children no matter how hard you press them to do something they need to make their own mistakes before they will truly understand the lesson and apply it to future endevours.

Teach moderation.... kids are gonna drink teach how to drink responsibly, even if you dont want them to they will but give them the foreknowledge that you will always be there, and not to be afraid to ask for help.

Teach that you are a parent first, and a friend later.

Teach that you will love them no matter how much they do wrong.

Allow some mistakes then offer advice and a shoulder to cry on.

    Live and let live.

good luckWhat are the three pieces of advice you would give to your teenager ???
Great question! I will have a teenager in just a couple of short years. I hope that I will have equipped him with more than 3 pieces of advice. Here are three thoughts that come readily to mind:

    1) In life there is what is right, what is legal, and what happens in the real world. These are three very different things. Aspire to what is right, respect what is legal, and be keenly aware of how things work in the real world.

    2) This one actually comes from a movie called ';Second Hand Lions';. For those who have seen the movie it is straight out of his ';What every boy needs to know to become a man speech';. In life there are things that are worth believing in, not because they're right, not because they're true, but because they are worth believing in. These are things like ';good always triumphs over evil'; and ';Love conquers all';. The point is it doesn't matter if you can prove they are true, what is important is your faith that they are.

    3) Live! Revel in your mind and body and the gift of your existence in this world of matter and linear time. What are the three pieces of advice you would give to your teenager ???

    Teenager advice?

i have a 15 yr old da.. last night, i put all phones away, at 9:30..house rule, no calls after that point...its always been that way..found out this morn that my dau got one of the cell phones was on it for 2 hrs during the night, and when i asked her about it, she lied to me, said it wasnt her...after talking about trust and yada yada, she then told me it was her...1st she broke the rule, snuck and was on the phone...then 2nd, she lied to me about it..the only reason she told me was cause i said i was calling the cell phone co and finding out the last # called, so she knew she was busted...any advice on fitting punishment??Teenager advice?
I think you need to accept that your daughter is growing up. By being too authoritarian, you are actually encouraging lying.

Because you are too strict (by your own admission) your kids will lie to you to avoid punishment. They will also be afraid to confide in you, which will result in them doing things behind your back.

Rules and boundaries are important. But there has to be some flexibility.

In this case you could ground her from the phone, but will this mean she will end up sneaking out of the house to see her boyfriend? Wouldn't you rather her be on the phone with him for two hours, rather than sneaking out of the house without your knowledge to meet with him?

Equally, if you ground her and prevent her seeing her boyfriend, there is another force pushing her to do it behind your back.

Why not just give her some extra chores or cut her allowance for breaking the house rules? Just be careful about blowing this up out of proportion.Teenager advice?
I have this same problem. Had a little set to just last night over the very same thing. Our deadline is 10pm, though.

Any infraction of cell phone usage rules results in a week without the cell phone.

I've rarely had to enforce it. They die at the thought of not having their phone, and understandably so. It's a key part of being able to access their social network.
i would say you are a little to strict but they are your rules. you got to remember when you was that age and when you had a boy friend. i wouldnt ground her or take the phones, but be stern on not using the phone after 9:30.
ground her 4 a month then she won'y do it again and take her cell away 4 that month 2
I agree with ZCT you are being a little too strict with your daughter and u got to accept the fact that your daughter is growing up but you also must believe in yourself for teaching your daughter what is right and wrong but life can't be perfect so give her a small punishment and later on she will realize the way you feel but if she doesn't then its her fault not yours because you have tried your best and fulfilled your role as a mom and so now you know what to do. Can't say it will be easy but you can at least try.
I'm new to the group. I have a 13 yr old dau. Went thru a very rough year %26amp; now I homeschool her. We made an agreement as my goal was for her to be responsible and not lie 2 me. She may have the phone from 9-11pm if she does all her schoolwork, has cleaned her room, and was not rude that day. She now knows it is up to her if she gets the phone at night, so I'm not the ';bad guy';. If she lies again or sneaks I would let her know ahead of time the phone will be taken for 2 days. Will not work for all, but has worked pretty well for us. You're not 2 strict - you are trying to protect your child %26amp; teach her - that's your job, embrace it!

    -Dara
*Sighs* We are freaking rebelious WOMAN!

We hate rules, so don't lay them on thick.

Personally I don't see what the big deal is if she is talking on the phone after 9:30, sure the lying but what the hell who am I decided I am only 15.

Point being the more you restrict her the more you will piss her off, then the more rebellious she will be and then the more she will resent you later in life.

so don't punish her and just tell her you will let her go this time, next time she is grounded.

but seriously the phone rule is ******* stupid.
Coming from a 13 year old this probably doesn't mean much but I would say: tell her to focus on her school work throughout the week then let her do what she wants on weekends....that is what my parents do and it works out well.......
