What advice would you give to a teenager with NO social skills?

This kid in my class has NO social skills whatsoever. He has no friends, and when we talk to him about anything, we somehow get on the subject of him and some stupid book he read or about the Lord Of the Rings (which I despise). I would like to help him make some friends, so any advice would help. I wouldn't normally do this but I felt really bad when he came into class talking to himself and said, ';I'm a loser...';

I commend you for trying. Hopefully, this person is interested in your project. If not, be aware of the possible ';crazy'; backlash. Now for the advice: the more you interact with this person and get them to talk the better. The exchange of personal anecdotes will encourage this kid to share. If you ask more about his interests, chances are the pattern that you communicate will be learned by him. It will take time and patience on your part, but I think that this sort of rehabilitation is a nice way to make a difference. You may be saving this kid from suicide or other emotionally detrimental issues just by being nice to him, especially if he's talking to himself and calling himself a loser. Thats funny because I was and still am just like that kid. He, like me, probably has a bad backround in life and has been rejected by people. I mean so many things could of happen to this poor kid. I think you should talk to him and make him feel like a human being and not like a peice of crap which alot of jerks do. Who knows he might be on the brink of suicide and someone might just save his life because God knows someone saved mine!

Well just invite him to any events that you can!! He is probably going through a weird stage in his life and just wants to be included, NOT looked at like a freak. Talk to him, find out his interests (besides Lord of the Ring), and find things he has in common with other people. MOST of all tell him to just be himself, there is no scene in pretending to be some one your not and being miserable!! XD
he has stupid parents who ignore and abuse him, he is socially retarded, I use to be like this, I had to really overcome it, do not be mean to him he needs friends not abuse he is getting that I bet at home

i tried doing the same thing, to this kid in my class, nothing worked. I tried to find him some friends, but he took it as a insult.
Well for one thing don't call his interests ';stupid';. If he likes Lord of the Rings, let him.


You sound like you're trying to be charitable in helping him make friends, but in DESCRIBING him you managed to insult him.

BUT if you truly wish to help him make friends, introduce him to a club at school where he can meet people who share interests with him.
they need to go to their folks and talk
If he's happy the way he is, just let him be. It's probably not a good idea to try to make him ';social'; if he doesn't even like to be, which seems to be the case.
